Hello hello, friend! My name is Christina Rafano from nursingsos.com and welcome to the fourth video in a 5-part video series all about nursing exam questions and test taking strategies for nursing students.

In today’s video, we’re diving into another nursing test taking strategy to help you rock your nursing exams along with an example question to help bring it all together.

Okydoky, so the nursing test taking strategy we’ll talk about is that patient safety is always your number one priority.

Nursing exams are intended to test your knowledge and skill with how you’ll act as a fully licensed nurse. And as a nurse, your number one priority should always be the safety of your patients. So of course, your nursing exams are going to put this to the test, to make sure that you prioritize patient safety.

So to get a better example of what I mean by that, let’s walk through an example nursing exam question. This exam question comes from the NCLEX RN Mastery App, and this is the app I used through nursing school and I HIGHLY recommend you use it too, to help you get more familiar with nursing exam questions. The more you practice answering nursing exam questions like these, the more confident you’ll be when you actually go and take your nursing school exam because you’ll be more familiar with how nursing exams are written.

So, make sure you download this app right after you watch this video, because it will help you out SO much in nursing school.

There is an affiliate link down below for you to get that app, and just a little disclaimer here, if you do decide to purchase this app through my link, I will receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. Of course, you know I will NEVER EVER recommend something I don’t LOVE. I can’t stress it enough how much this app helped me during nursing school. So there is a link down below if you’d like to snag it.

So, like I said, the nursing test taking strategy we’ll talk about is that patient safety is your number one priority. So if there is an answer that has something to do with keeping the patient safe, that answer is most likely the correct one.

So, let’s read this example nursing exam question:

A newly admitted adolescent is being questioned by the nurse in regards to his health history. The nurse should follow up on which of the following patient statements?

“I only eat vegetables, and I have lost 10 pounds in the past 3 weeks.”
“I have a lot of trouble waking up in the morning.”
“My mood is always changing.”
“When I am stressed out, I like to see my girlfriend.”

This nursing exam question is asking you to select which statement you should assess further with your patient.

So looking at this question, you can see that one answer in particular just screams patient safety. And it’s answer number one: the patient stating that they have lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks. Out of all of the other answers, which mostly involve mood or emotions, that first answer has more to do with the safety of your patient.

So number one is the correct answer.

And that is your nursing test taking strategy to help you with your nursing exams: patient safety should be your number one priority.

And make sure you snag the the NCLEX RN Mastery App to get access to thousands of nursing exam questions. This app is AMAZING, you don’t want to live without it, so I put the link down below.
